Steps to Becoming a Registered Aromatherapist®

1. Complete a Recognized Aromatherapy Program

Start by enrolling in a CAOA-recognized aromatherapy program. These programs meet CAOA standards for aromatherapy education and include instruction in essential oil safety, application methods, anatomy and physiology, and more.

2. Submit Your Certification Application

Once you’ve completed your program, you can apply for Registered Aromatherapist® status with CAOA. You’ll need to submit your transcripts, provide proof of course completion, and meet the documented training hours required for certification.

3. Agree to the CAOA Code of Ethics

All applicants must commit to the CAOA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. The Code of Ethics includes guidelines for responsible practice, safety, ongoing learning, and respectful client relationships.

 4. Maintain Your Designation With Continuing Education

To keep your RA® status active, you must complete a required number of Continuing Education Credits (CECs) every cycle. Continuing education ensures you stay up to date with evolving safety standards and new knowledge in the field.
